João Pedro’s Double Sends Chelsea to Club World Cup Final Against Fluminense
Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Fluminense in the Club World Cup semi-final, with João Pedro scoring twice against his former club to guide the Blues into the final.
In a high-pressure Club World Cup 2025 semi-final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, Chelsea booked their place in the final with a clinical 2-0 win over Fluminense. The spotlight was firmly on João Pedro, Chelsea’s £60 million summer signing, who delivered a match-winning performance against the club where he began his career.
Pedro opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a superb curling finish from the edge of the box, leaving the Fluminense keeper with no chance. The Brazilian forward added a second early in the second half, smashing a powerful strike off the underside of the crossbar following a swift Chelsea counterattack.
Out of respect for his former side, João Pedro chose not to celebrate either goal — a moment of class that was warmly acknowledged by fans inside the stadium.
Fluminense fought hard to find a way back into the game but were denied by a disciplined Chelsea defence. Marc Cucurella made a crucial clearance off the line, and VAR overturned a potential penalty for Fluminense in the closing stages. Chelsea comfortably saw out the final minutes to seal a well-earned victory.
